Welcome to the Website of TOXSA

The Toxicology Society of South Africa (TOXSA) is a professional society with individual and corporate memberships engaged in toxicological education and research and development and the use of toxicological science in policy and decision-making.

The aims of the Society are to promote and advance the study and application of toxicology in all its aspects in South Africa, and to cultivate the highest principles of practice and ethics in persons engaged in the sciences of toxicology and ancillary sciences.

After extensive negotiations with the South African Council for Natural Science Professionals (SACNASP), TOXSA has managed to get Toxicological Sciences accepted as a recognized discipline. Only TOXSA members will be able to apply for registration as a Toxicological Scientist.

President's Message

As our Society turned 10 this year, there is much to celebrate. As an accepted voluntary society registered with SACNASP, our members will now be able to register as Toxicologists with this organization. In addition, as a member society of IUTOX, we will soon be able to include our Toxicologists on the international list of Registered Toxicologists to be compiled by IUTOX. Moreover, there will soon be a scheme in place by IUTOX to certify Toxicologists with higher levels of qualifications and experience allowing them to be globally recognized as Senior Professional Toxicologists.

During the last decade, TOXSA has organized a number of annual meetings including the internationally prestigious 7CTDC.

TOXA Organizing Committee

I am also delighted to announce that this year TOXSA will host its annual meeting during the month of September in Nairobi, Kenya. One of our objectives as to why we have decided to host the meeting in East Africa, is to, through the support of IUTOX, assist our fellow Toxicologists in East Africa with the establishment of their own society.

For all that TOXSA has achieved throughout its established history, none of it would have been possible without the support of our members. I would like to extend my gratitude to all members that have actively participate in this exciting community; to allow for further success I therefore encourage all our members to respond to calls soon to be made by our newly elected secretary, Japie van Tonder, allowing for the confirmation of your membership and the updating of any contact details so that we may keep you updated with future happenings.
