SASBCP/TOXSA October 2012

This year marked the 46th Annual Congress of the South African Society for Basic and Clinical Pharmacology in association with the Department of Family Medicine (UP) and Toxicology Society of South Africa. The congress was held from the 29th of September to the 2nd of October, at the Sanlam Ouditorium, University of Pretoria. The programme featured two main symposiums: the 7th Annual Pain Symposium and a Clinical Symposium. The Clinical Guidelines Symposium on the Sunday morning focused on 10 major disorders in primary care which were addressed by renowned experts in their respective fields where attendees had the unique opportunity to be updated on "the latest and greatest" major issues in primary care. Mini symposiums on obesity and 'biosimilars' also formed part of the congress. The Pharmacology and Toxicology Society had a joint session on herbal remedies. The congress was a great success and attracted more than 600 delegates.

TOXSA's invited speaker was Dr Richard Canady.
